How We Help

Students are committed by the Department of Juvenile Justice or by Palm Beach County Juvenile Court to the Palm Beach Marine Institute program until they successfully meet and complete the requirements of those institutions. Normal length of attendance is between four and six months. This kind of program is called Day Treatment as opposed to Residential Treatment.

Palm Beach Marine Institute is better equipping students to reintegrate back into their daily structure prior to their difficulties by helping them develop the skills to become more responsible and productive citizens.

Among services and support for students, their families, and their communities are:

  • Complete Case Management
  • Restorative Justice Education
  • Legal Services
  • Job Placement
  • Victim Awareness Education
  • Individual Group and Family Counseling
  • Extensive Vocational Training
  • Secondary Education Assistance

Along with academics and vocational skill building, positive behavior is encouraged and rewarded.

Important to us is conveying to our communities an understanding that a major part of our program is education. We must meet the same strict local and national requirements, standards, staffing, and testing as all other schools in Palm Beach County.

Our Mission

To provide services through a balanced approach that reduces juvenile delinquency, increases public safety, provides program and offender accountability, and works in partnership with families, schools, communities, and law enforcement.

Our Success...

Palm Beach Marine Institute follows students for three years after graduation to document their success rate. Program success such as ours is the focus of youth violence studies around the country.

Studies such as those researched by the MacArthur Foundation show that juvenile offenders completing a treatment and behavior modification program have life long reduced recidivism (repeat offenses). This is one of our measures of success.

Palm Beach Marine Institute measures success in three ways:

  • Increased Academic Skills
  • Increased Vocational Skills
  • Reduced or Eliminated Recidivism

Our success rate remains over 75%, but often is higher.

75% or more of Palm Beach Marine Institute students have no further negative contact with the juvenile justice system.

For at risk youth who have successfully completed programs such as ours, studies show that recidivism remains lower throughout their adult lives.
